It all started at a cat show when one of the woman exhibiters noticed my
fondness for her cats. We spoke about the prize Siamese cats that she owned and her problems as a cat breeder. She told me that she lived alone and was victimized by burglars many times. If it was possible to have a good watchdog she would have one, but her cats are frightened at the sight of a dog. I told her that I was homeless and that if she would let me live among her cats I would act as her watchdog. She was shocked that an elderly man such as myself would offer to take a position as a human watchdog. But out of desperation she accepted my offer and I was given a cot in the room where she kept her cats.

The cats room was more comfortable than I had Expected. It contained a toilet, a shower, and a canvas cot. There were twenty two Siamese cats to keep me company. My new life as a watchdog was a great opportunity and I was lucky to have met that lady. The cats were fed twice a day by her. She prepared special food for me which I loved. It consisted of chopped raw beef mixed with nuts and vegetables. A large container of milk was there for me at dinner time. I earned my keep when I heard a noise coming from the living room window. A stranger with a metal bar was trying to pry it open. Instead of calling the police I barked and howled at him, it worked because he quickly ran away when he heard those sounds.

My owner never spoke but often hugged and kissed me on the forehead. I was happy when she did because it made me feel wanted. One day after kissing me she said that for the first time in her life she has fallen deeply in love. She told me that she hated all men and never dated a man in over forty years. Until I became her favorite pet her life was empty. I was shocked to hear her say that I could move into her bedroom. I refused her generous offer because I needed time to think it over. Besides I was comfortable living among the cats without any responsibility but as a watchdog.

Instead of breaking her heart I said that she could still express her love by meeting me in the cats room as often as possible. I said that I still needed her hugs and kisses but only as her favorite pet. She agreed and we are both having a great relationship. But there are thoughts that come to me late at night, they are about sleeping in my owners bedroom. If they continue I am sure to wind up there.
