The work of voice-over artists is everywhere. In fact, your world is filled with it, and you probably don't even notice it. At least you didn't before you started planning to hire one of them. If you are wondering why you never thought about them before, it's because you aren't supposed to. One of the most interesting things about being voice talent is the ability to capture someone's attention while at the same time redirecting their attention from the artist to the product or service being marketed. That might sound a bit odd when you start to actually ponder it, doesn't it? If you try to do that yourself, you’re going to wind up drawing everyone's attention to you and off of your message, which ain’t very good. That's the main reason you should hire a professional voice artist to do the job for you.

Consider the large number of places that voiceovers turn up, and that is after crossing off jingles and T.V.. But you can use voice talent to announce your special event or your commercial website. Heck, you can even use a voice-actor to announce your personal website if you really want it out there badly enough. Many people choose to voice those types of projects for themselves. Maybe it's because they don't think of them as important enough to hire a voice. In that case, why are they doing it at all? If it's worth your attention, it is worth doing right.

For instance, if you want to produce an audio book, don’t even think about voicing it yourself - unless, of course, you have a professional-grade voice. And most people simply do not have this kind of experience. Then there are corporate videos and educational videos, which are very helpful and can be extremely - if done properly. If you have good material, and people enjoy listening to the narrator, then you have a message that can bring you a measure of success. But if people can't stand listening to the voice for one reason or another, then your message is in trouble.

“I’m talking to people with this voice all the time!” you may be thinking. That may be true, but your listening audience can tolerate a lot more in person than they will forgive you for on a recording. And are there people actually paying to listen to you talk at this point? Probably not. If they are, then stop reading right now. This article is not for you.

You might be under the impression that using an amateur or doing it yourself will save you money. At the outset, yes, but if this is a for-profit venture you are planning, it will probably cost you more money in the end. Sounding silly can cost you the respect of the buyers you are attempting to impress. People are more likely to spend their money with people who give them the appearance that they know what they're doing. If they hear you confused in a recording, as so many do-it-yourselfers do, then they’re going to rethink spending their money with you.
